image A trip for two to Kassandra, Chalkidiki

We started this journey for two with our car from Sofia to Kassandra, Chalkidiki. The distance from Sofia to Thessaloniki is around 310 km and from Thessaloniki to Halkidiki another 100 km. We started at 9 am and travelled around 5-6 hours with no traffic on the road at all. It was the last week of May, lovely weather and prices in Greece are still lower than in the high season.

Kassandra is a municipality part of Halkidiki, a peninsula next to Sithonia. We have always travelled to Sithonia, but this time we spent one full day driving around the green Kassandra.

We started our trip from the lovely and touristic city of Kalithea. We had a coffee with the amazing view you can see above, and afterwards walked around the small busy streets, full of typical Greek souvenirs for sale. We even found a place where small fish could take care of your pedicure! Check it out.

34Next stop was the Greek village Polihrono, with a charming Corniche and nice view to the see too. In general Kassandra is much lively and amusing than Sithonia, with more activities to do during the day, as well as in the evening. We had fast lunch by the sea – 2 gyros, which were sold by a Bulgarian man 🙂

Next short stop was a hotel complex in the mountains close to Chaniotis. The complex consists of nice family villas with private pool and amazing view to the sea. The best is to visit this place in July or August, when the temperatures are really hight, but in the mountain it is cooler and so refreshing.

We continued the drive through lovely olive trees forest and soon  reached the exclusive complex Nefeli Luxury Villas, just on the sea side in Nea Skioni. We are sure the stay in these villas is not cheap, but the place is so amazing that maybe it is worth every single Euro. The complex has a private bar with a beach designed in a typical Greek style – in blue and white colors and a breathtaking sea view. Order your espresso and just enjoy the wind in your hair…

If you visit Nefeli Bar, pay attention to its rest rooms – this is the most romantic entrance to a WC I have ever seen in my life! See it for yourself.

So romantic
Red roses everywhere… So romantic

Do not miss the small church just next to the beach, hidden in the shadows of the green trees and also painted in white and blue.

Once we explored Kassandra we headed to Sithonia, were we stayed for few nights. The sun just appeared in the afternoon and we managed to get some tan on Talgo beach. There is nothing more relaxing than having a Greek cocktail on the beach and starring at the near island in the sea. All your worries and troubles will go away…

The exciting day ended up with this beautiful view over the sea from our favourite sea side restaurant in Sithonia…Have you been there? We will come back soon, Halkidiki!
